Practical masonry and domestic plumbing techniques drive Grade 10 Building Construction throughout Term 3. The 11-page schedule arranges 41 technical sessions over 9 weeks, combining workshop tool handling with structural floor installations.
Learners spend the first fortnight examining solid ground floor strata before moving into pipe fitting, jointing methods, and hydrostatic pressure testing:
- Ground Floors: identifying ground floor types, drafting section drawings, mixing and tamping concrete, and erecting a murram-hardcore mock-up floor slab in weeks 1 and 2.
- Plumbing Tools and Materials: cutting and threading pipes with die stocks, maintaining pipe wrenches, and evaluating Galvanised Iron (GI), PVC, and copper tubes during weeks 2 to 4.
- Pipework Assembly: interpreting plumbing schematic diagrams, preparing solvent-welded PVC joints, heat-fusing PPR lines, bending pipes with hydraulic benders, and running leak pressure tests spanning weeks 4, 5, and 6.
- Workshop Review: week 7 mid-term assessments, concluding with practical pump testing and portfolio verification during weeks 8 and 9.
